With only two albums under his belt, Marcus King has already proven so much as a major player in the rock, blues, and southern rock genres. His debut album, "El Dorado," enabled him to snag a Grammy nomination — an impressive feat for a first solo album. However, for those who knew the South Carolina native, this is (almost) expected of him.
Growing up in a musical family and being dubbed a musical prodigy at the young age of 11, King has always impressed the people around him. Thus, when he ventured into music professionally in 2013 with his band, the blues community embraced him with open arms. Even when he decided to go solo, his fanbase just grew exponentially. His sophomore album, "Young Blood," released in 2022, showed another side of King. Rock and Blues Muse described the album as "a timeless concoction of swaggering rock and supersonic soul, drawing on his [Marcus] most stadium-sized rock influences." An uplifting single from the album, "Hard Working Man," is among the fan favorites from the album.
This year, the 27-year-old Grammy-nominated artist is set to release a new album. Dubbed "Mood Swings," the album will be released early April and is King's venture with superproducer Rick Rubin. The famous producer helped King in finding a new sonic and personal approach in writing while he was in a particularly low point in his life. The artist admitted that he had struggles with both addiction and mental health and writing this album helped a lot in overcoming those struggles.
"Without this assembly of songs, I don't think I'd be around," King said. "I hope this album can act as a safety blanket, a rescue, or a refuge for anybody struggling with mental health, substance abuse, or relationship issues. That's what it is for me," he added.
As a support for this album, King will be embarking on a world tour. Kicking off in New York on March 7, the tour will bring King to some of the most prominent venues in the US and Canada. The tour will stop at Fillmore Auditorium on May 18. Tickets for the show are now on sale, and you can get yours here early. Hit the "Get Tickets" link to reserve yours today.
