At 15 years old, Gunna started making music. He grew up listening to music by Cam’ron, Chingy, and Outkast. In 2013, he released the mix tape Hard Body under the name Yung Serg.

He is signed to 300 Entertainment and Young Thug's YSL Records. Gunna first started rising to fame in 2018 with the release of the mixtape Drip Season 3. Later that year, he collaborated with Lil Baby on the mixtape Drip Harder. The single "Drip Too Hard" was released from the mixtape, which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100.

Released in 2019 as his debut studio album Drip or Drown 2, Gunna followed it up with his second studio album Wunna in 2020, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. He was featured on Internet Money's single "Lemonade" in August 2020, which peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped multiple charts worldwide. In 2022, he released his third album DS4Ever, which became his second consecutive number-one album. Just last year, he released his fourth album A Gift & A Curse.

The rapper is known for his distinct sound with smash hits like “Drip Too Hard” with Lil Baby, “Fukumean,” “Lemonade” with Internet Money, Don Toliver and NAV, “Pushin P” with Future and Young Thug. His talent has led to remarkable collaborations with other well known rappers like Lil Durk, Roddy Ricch, 21 Savage, Drake, and Travis Scott.

She became well-known when her songs "Beef FloMix" from 2018 and "In the Party" from 2019 went viral on the social media site TikTok; the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the latter song as platinum. She inked a recording deal with Justin Goldman's '94 Sounds, an RCA Records label, at the end of 2019.

Ho, Why Is You Here, Carter's debut mixtape, included both tracks as lead singles. (2020), which debuted to great praise from critics and made Rolling Stone's list of the greatest hip-hop albums ever made. At number 76, it was her debut entry on the US Billboard 200. Carter's debut studio album, You Still Here, Ho?, was released in July 2022., which, despite not charting, garnered a similar excellent reception; the RIAA certified its track "Conceited" as gold. She made her debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 with her 2023 single "Never Lose Me," which peaked in the top 20.
At the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards and the 2021 BET Awards, Carter was a nominee for Best New Artist.
