Punk and Rock powerhouses Rise Against will play the Fillmore Auditorium with opening acts The Gaslight Anthem and Hot Water Music, September 24, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.
Chicago’s Rise Against began in 1999 when ex-88 Fingers Louie bassist Joe Principe tapped area vocalist Tim McIlrath for a new project rooted in the sound and social vision of traditionalist hardcore. Joined by fellow 88 Fingers vet Dan Precision on guitar and, eventually, drummer Brandon Barnes, Rise Against signed to Fat Wreck and issued The Unraveling in 2001.
The Gainesville, FL-based post-hardcore quartet Hot Water Music was formed in 1994 by bassist Jason Black, drummer George Rebelo, and singers/guitarists Chuck Ragan and Chris Wollard. Debuting in 1995 with the 7″ “Eating the Filler,” they soon returned with the EP Push for Coin, rounding out the year with the release of their first full-length effort, Finding the Rhythms, on No Idea. Fuel for the Hate Game followed in 1996, but in the wake of their third album, Forever and Counting, Hot Water Music disbanded. The group soon re-formed, however, and have been on fire ever since, providing a rough, punk rock sound with gravel vocals.
Also opening, The Gaslight Anthem rose out of the fertile punk scene of New Brunswick, NJ, flaunting a unique style that melded the influence of Bruce Springsteen, Wilson Pickett, and various Motown groups with the rough, emotional grit of Hot Water Music and Jawbreaker. The band — comprised of vocalist/guitarist Brian Fallon, bassist Alex Levine, drummer Benny Horowitz, and guitarist Alex Rosamila — began establishing a hometown audience after forming in 2005, and their soulful punk rock attracted wider attention upon the release of their first full-length album, Sink or Swim.
Tickets are available, but this is expected to sell out!
