5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Blastoff! For Immersion: The Final Chapter, declared by the sci-fi-themed band to be their, “most impressive tour yet.” Get ready for Starset to rock you totally out of this world! “Framed by a dystopian futuristic narrative, the theme of this latest set of Demonstrations promises most-anticipated conclusions to narrative threads that have been woven into their multimedia experiences, through music, videos, and live performances,” the band stated in a press release.
So that's it, more than enough reason to call up your friends and tell them, "STARSET IS PLAYING AT THE Fillmore Auditorium on Saturday April, 20th 2024 and YOU’VE GOT TICKETS!!!"
Formed by Dustin Bates in Columbus, Ohio, back in 2013, the rest of the band currently are, backing singers, Ron DeChant on bass, and keyboards, and guitarist Brock Richards with Cory Juba on guitar, synth, and piano, and finally, the beautiful Siobhán Richards, and Zuzana Engererova on violin and cello respectively.
As a researcher for Ohio University, working with the U.S. Air Force, and teaching at the International Space University, Bates already had a Master's degree from his conducted research before forming the band. When forming the band, created a fictional backstory, that STARSET was formed at the behest of The STARSET Society, a group from the future whose goal is to inform people about the meaning of "the Message" they received from a signal in outer space.
The science-based backstory has proved to be a huge success for the band, building on their musical foundation, the band also provides several special features and accessories for fans on its website, including AR-integrated performances, a Marvel graphic novel, and online experiences that allow further understanding of the backstory. They also make heavy use of social media, allowing fans to add their music to games, or anime and to create user-generated content.
At last count, this user-generated content accounted for over $230,000 in revenue from views as of November 2016, and their most commercially successful song, "Monster", peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock chart in May 2017, while currently sitting on 30 Million views on YouTube. The band released their fourth studio album, Horizons, on October 22, 2021.
Horizons received plenty of positive reviews, Sonic Perspectives's Josh Muncke wrote, "Horizons is truly a step forward for Starset, and arguably a demonstration of them at their best. They've taken their past releases and distilled them all into an optimized collection of tracks, whilst introducing some new ideas to continue the concept narrative." Wall of Sound lauded the album, singling out the tracks "Otherworldly", "Icarus", and "Symbiotic" as highlights, while Kerrang! praised the "the galactic sense of scale in Horizons' orchestration enables all sixteen tracks to massage the emotions"
